One of the hardest decisions for any senior manager or executive is knowing when to ‘pull the plug’ on a troubled project. However not all troubled projects that appear to be heading towards failure need do so.
Many of these failing projects can be recovered and revived with a new lease of life if corrective action is taken at an early stage.
Warning signs that may indicate a project is getting into trouble include:-
- Unclear scope and a continuous new scope being identified at short notice
- A history of missing project milestones
- The complexity of the project appears to be growing at an alarming rate
- Team members appear to have low moral / confidence in the project
- A general lack of structure and control as management struggle to understand “just what is going on?”
- The client(s) is becoming agitated and reluctant to commit to the project
The good news is that initiating a project rescue need not be a drama, our proven approach could even have your project / programme back on-track with a few weeks.
